WTF Files Vol. 1

I went to WalMart the other day to purchase a couple of necessities, stand in the 20 item or less line behind people that don't know how to count, and exchange pleasantries with the retired door greeters that work there. Look what I found in the parking lot.

A quarter of a century...

I went to the Bay Area for a couple of days to celebrate saMm's 25th Birthday. Flew from LAS to SFO then took the Bart down to Fremont. We ate lunch at Toppings Too in Union City (mmmm Java rice) then headed to Monterey to check in. We stayed at the Monterey Bay Inn (http://www.montereybayinn.com/) which was amazing! We ate dinner at the Old Fisherman's Grotto, and tasted the best clam chowder ever, yes, even better than SF's. The next day we had breakfast at our usual spot in Carmel (ask for the name and I might tell you, can't blow up the spot...lol), then went to the beach. We chilled for the rest of the day and then I hopped on a flight back to Vegas.

Long Beach Ink...

I left for Long Beach on Monday night. Luckily by the time I got off of work, they opened the I15 South back up. I arrived at my hotel around Midnight, checked in and went to sleep. I woke up on Tuesday the 16th both giddy and nervous. It was a big day for me, one I will remember for the rest of my life. I was going to get my first tattoo done at Dream Jungle Tattoo by renowned artist Aleks Figueroa.

I knew I wanted 3 things incorporated into the tattoo: The last names of my parents, the Philippine coat of arms, and some philippine neo-tribal patterns. I got to the studio at 11:30am and the sketch work began. Aleks spent about an hour drawing the design on me free-hand, making many changes due to the fact that he is a perfectionist when it comes to his work, and it had to be done just right. After he finished free-handing the design, he told me that this design was something different than what he has done in the past and that he liked the direction that it was headed in. He stepped back and told me to look into the mirror. I was blown away. I had different sharpie colors outlining the design, and I could tell it was going to be awesome.

Next, I got into the chair, he fired up his tattoo machine and started to make the first line on my tricep. I experienced 3 different feelings while being tattoo'd. At first it was like duct tape was being pulled from my skin; After about an hour, when I was numbing out the pain, it felt like a tickling-buzzing vibration, and towards the end when I was fatigued (5 hours in) it felt like a hot knife cutting your skin.

After 5-6 hours and 3 15 minute breaks, my tattoo was done. I looked in the mirror and was even more amazed at what I saw than the first time. The shading, the intricate brush-stroke like lines in the alibata, and the overall shape were more than I could have ever imagined. I walked in with an idea, and walked out with a masterpiece. Aleks incorporated crocodile skin patterns for strength and protection, different plant and leaf patterns representing a solid foundation, good health, and long life, and repeating patterns of 4 representing the number of people in my family.

Simple mathmatics...

Started my season off at Lee Canyon today. Everyone had finals, or something to do so I made the trip up by myself. Got to the mountain at 12:30 and got in a couple of runs before I ran into Mark, Vanessa, and Laura. Hope someone finds the piece of ass you broke off on the mountain L-aura! LMAO!!!...jkjk. I got in about 15 solid runs. The snow was powder packed with good coverage on the open runs. Work is getting in the way of me having a full out season, so I hope the snow gods bring some powpow to Lee this season cause thats where i'll probably be on my days off.
